I'm Here for Day One of the Leafs Me Happy Blog Hop

Today the Leafs Me Happy blog hop is ready to unfurl and I am thrilled to be one of the ten quilters who are ready to roll out the leaves as we begin Day One of the 10-day hop. Many hugs and thanks go to Madame Samm of Sew We Quilt for creating this happy little hop, and to Cherry at Cherry Blossoms Quilting Studio for her courageous and cheerful coordination! You gals are the best!

When the hop was announced, I knew just where to find my Fall fabrics...in my stash!  Some time ago, I won a giveaway of gorgeous Fall fabrics from Kaaren at The Painted Quilt and I was waiting for just the right project to come along. There were five scrumptious fat quarters in coordinating colors that arrived by post. For this blog hop, I didn't have to do much thinking about fabrics. All I had to do was add a little black and gold from my stash and sew. All my blocks are 12.5 inches.

Leafs Me Running
I used the Braced Star pattern by Vicki Welsh for three blocks.  Vicki posted the pattern as part of the Quilting Gallery's Glorious Autumn Block party, a 15 week celebration and block party- a perfect companion to celebrate Fall along with the Leafs Me Happy blog hop. I made two of the Braced Star blocks using the same color scheme.

Leafs Me Running Again
For my third block, I changed up the colors a little to add some variety and make it the focus block for my completed project.

Leafs Me Table Running
You probably figured it out by now-three blocks makes a perfect sized table runner! So I sewed the blocks together, added some sashing and a pieced border, and soon had the beginnings of my new Fall table decor.

I decided to try out my new sewing machine and did some machine quilting using the stitch in the ditch foot. I'm pretty pleased with the results...baby steps for me with this machine quilting stuff!

Leafs Me Turning
For my next block, I used some triangles left over from the table runner, sewed them together in a bit of a pattern, and created block four which I call "Leafs Me Turning".  When I look at it, I swear  I can see some movement!

The block came together very quickly. I handquilted it with a golden perle cotton by Valdani and hung it in the little table frame crafted by my hubby.

"Specktacular" Fall
This next block is my favorite.  I combined two projects...my September Schnibble quilt for the Another Year of Schnibbles quiltalong and a Leafs Me Happy block. "Speck" is the name of the pattern we quiltalongers used for the quiltalong for September. The Schnibble patterns are designed by Carrie Nelson who just recently introduced her Little Bites patterns. "Speck" was the perfect choice for me, and as you can see, I made the "O" version.

This block quickly became a table topper quilt with lots of hand quilting to give it dimension and character.

And of course I had to see what it would look like out on the deck!

Giveaway?  If you have read this far, you definitely deserve a chance to win a giveaway. I attended the Ocean Waves Quilt Society meeting yesterday in Port Hawkesbury and did some fabulous shopping at the vendors' booths.  I picked up this little kit for a "French Bread" table runner designed by Susan Fuquay of American Quilt Retailer  and will mail it to the winner of my giveaway. The kit includes the pattern and fabrics for the Fall French Bread 12" x 28" quilt top. Just leave a comment by Friday, October 5 at 12:00 midnight EST for a chance to win.

Thanks so much for coming by today. As you may guess, I have had a wonderful time making these Fall projects. And I am in great company in this blog hop today with 9 other quilters ready to welcome you to their blogs and share with you their leafy creations.  Please visit them today by clicking on the links below.

For the complete Leafs Me Happy blog hop schedule, visit Cherry at www.cherryblossomsquiltingstudio.com and click the button on her sidebar.  There is always so much inspiration, fun, and maybe some giveaways during this blog hop. It's a party and everyone is invited!

You can read about even more giveaways by following Madame Samm at Sew We Quilt during the blog hop.  You'll also learn that there are even more blog hops in the works!  A picture of every block from Leafs Me Happy (and previous blog hops) will be posted on Madame Samm's Pinterest page right here . Every day two blocks will be chosen as the top blocks of the day, as well as an Honourable Mention.

Again, thanks to you all for coming by and enjoy the Leafs Me happy blog hop. I know I will!

Happy Birthday, Mom!

It's a great day for quilting!

  161. There is only one thing better than quilting with fall colors, is sitting outside and smelling the fresh air of fall while sewing.

  162. Charming quilts made with lots of love and plenty of talent. Especially the French Bread design, so clever. I grew up on French bread every night growing up in New Orleans. Now that I've moved away I always search for the best I can find. Making po'boy sandwiches is must.

  175. Hi, Lesley. You've been really busy getting all these blocks done. Lovely, btw. My favorite was the "O" block. For whatever reason, the Os always remind me of people holding hands - your selection of colors really made it come to life for me. Hmmmm, maybe it's quilters' holding hands...at least many have held my hand as I learn this new art. :)
