My Country Charmer quilt is coming along well, but I did want to tell you about a little change I made. Last month, I showed you my sashings and nine-patches that I had completed HERE. I had chosen some wonderful fabrics, made the units, and thought I was ready to start framing my CC blocks. However, I kept hearing this little nagging voice inside me that said "I like it, but I don't love it."
The reason I wanted to make the Country Charmer quilt in the first place was because I fell in love with the quilt. Designer Lynne of Sew'n Wild Oaks had made such a beautiful CC quilt, it inspired me to want to make the quilt, see if anyone else would like to join me and we would all share the progress. That's when the idea for the Country Charmer Quiltalong was born. We started in January (read about it HERE ...it is never too late to join in) and will post our finished quilts or quilt tops in November. Lynn has been wonderful in motivating us every step of the way and Quilt Sue at Quilt Times has been an "English Country Charmer" herself and designed our beautiful CC button.
Back to my story...I looked at the pattern, looked at the sashing and nine-patches that I had chosen, and finally figured out that for my "like" to change to "love" with my quilt, I needed to match the light colour in the sashing with the light background of my blocks. Those who know me well are laughing now, in fact they might be rolling on the floor, because I am definitely someone who changes her mind a lot!
On with my story again...I shopped in my stash for another blue, found enough of my original background fabric to match my CC blocks, and started over. Here is the audition for my new version...
Here is a pic of the new with the original choice...
and a few more auditions with the new.
I have lots of sewing to do on my CC, matching the seams on the sashing with the nine-patches. Next month I hope to show you the centre of my quilt all sewn together. But please don't ask me what colour I'm using for my borders yet, because that will be another story!
Giveaway for CC Linkers! If you are making a Country Charmer quilt or have finished it already, please link up below and leave a comment. I will be having a giveaway for those of you who link up to share a post of your Country Charmer progress or your finished CC quilt with us. To make it really interesting, I will go and look at the links from all the monthly updates since we started in January. For every time you linked to show your progress, you'll have a chance to win. If you are a regular CC linker, you'll have more chances! I'll leave the linky up for a week, make the random draw on June 9 after 5:00 EST and be in touch with the winner through email. The winner will receive a $20 gift certificate to their choice of one of the following online quilt shops: Sew Lux Fabric and Gifts, Christa's Quilts, or In Between Stitches.
Another Giveaway just added! Lynn has "sweetened the pot" and has added a "select a Sew'n Wild Oaks pattern of your choice". So two giveaways available to be won if you link up here with your Country Charmer quilt.
We have also received several pictures sent to us by quilters who don't have a blog, but are still participating with us in the QAL. We will also add your names to the draw. It's a Country Charmer day! Thanks, Lynn.
When you're done visiting here, make sure you visit Quilt Times today. She and her friends have just issued a 2013 Christmas QAL and Challenge! Quilt Sue, Hazel at Hazel's Quilts, and Joanna at Needle, Thread, Happiness are all working together to host this challenge, and you're not allowed to use red or green. Sounds really interesting!
It's a great day for quilting!
