Sometimes I have to leave the teeny tiny quilts and make something more modern and big. So I did. It took no time at all to make this quilt, using a stack of layer cakes and some 2.5" strips.
The pattern is called Cake Mix and is designed by Cozy Quilt Designs, which is where I ordered mine from. The pattern is part of their "Cake Therapy" grouping and can be ordered HERE.
The quilt is 77" x 91", a perfect size for most beds, spread across or at the foot. I'm naming this "Cake Mix Celebration" to celebrate the wonderful designers out there!
I won the Tradewinds Layer cake, which includes an array of bright reds, blues, greens, and teals prints designed by Lily Ashbury. I chose to compliment the colour scheme by focusing on the teals and greens from other lines. I used some beautiful fat quarters from the Blend line designed by Amanda Murphy, and added some Ruby by Bonnie and Camille, Summer House, again by Lily Ashbury, Hello Luscious by Basic Grey, and Coquette by Chez-Moi. The result...a cake mix of fun with a scrappy border!
Of course, when I took the pictures of the flimsy the wind was blowing fiercely...
so I took one last shot when the wind held it's breath...
and folded it up. It's heading off to the quilter today.
What did I do then? Went back to my teeny tiny quilts, of course! I'm working on Nabby's Dowry by Pam Buda. It is a free QAL she offered us on every Friday for 12 weeks beginning in June that you can read about HERE. Although she made a scrappy many-colored version, I chose to make mine a structured scrappy using blacks and white/creams with some reds in the background. Here are a few pics...
I finished all thirteen blocks and am in the process of adding the sashing. The quilt will finish around 32" square.
Pam has a new line of fabric that just arrived at my door. She calls it "American Gothic" and it is just gorgeous. It is full of blacks and creams with a hint of red. Do you see a pattern? I just about depleted what I had in my stash, so I ordered the fat eighths bundle of each print directly from her web site HERE and it arrived in no time. They are yummy!
Well, better run. I am off for a weekend birthday celebration for me and my Mom with two of my sisters three! A weekend of walking on the beach, sitting by the fire, sharing some new memories, and having lots of good food and an occasional glass of wine! Woodworker Hubby will miss me terribly but I'll be back in a few days.
It's a great day for quilting!
